Ahhh, the politics of green cars. A tricky subject, to be sure. I mean, should the feds buy lots and lots of Chevy Volts? Should the CEOs of the Big Three drive from Detroit to DC? And, if so, then in which cars? Today, I'm thankful I don't need to answer these questions under public scrutiny.

1968 Torino GT 390 on eBay

This 1968 Torino GT 390 hit us in the gut as we’ve recently admitted to ourselves that we have a super soft spot for these cars.

This particular example is a nice piece. It’s not some super rare, one of none car, instead it’s a solid car with the right stuff like a 335hp Police Interceptor 390, a 9″ differential with 3.25 gears and a factory limited slip, bucket seats and a C6.

This is a car you could jump into and have a blast with immediately, our favorite kind (but strangely the ones we never seem to buy). Dad was apparently fixin’ this one up for his kiddo, but college bill started flowing in, so it’s up for sale. Grab it and start putting the FE torque to work!

Click here for the eBay listing.

Veritas RS III: Back To Basics
Did you know which manufacturer was the first German Formula 1 racer? Give yourself a pat on the back if you answered Veritas. The company knows which buttons to push to maximize the adrenaline rush. Their latest racer, the RS III, is pure and simple - a true racer. One seat, an engine, and a chassis, you won’t need anymore gadgets for a pure racing experience. Veritas shoehorns a BMW V10 into the slim body giving the car a total weight of just 1,080 kg at a total displacement of about 5,000 cc. The company’s quiet on the performance figures on the car but judging on the fact that it’s a light car with a big, bad engine, then sheer fun is guaranteed. A lucky selection of 50 joyriders will get the pleasure of owning the Veritas RS III. $375,000.

Aston Martin Debuts V8 Vantage Roadster

Aston1

We’re still a few weeks out from the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, but automakers can’t keep their excitement under wraps. Aston Martin just sent over information on the V8 Vantage roadster it will display at the show. Based on the Vantage coupe, the roadster version features the same 380-hp engine as its hardtop brethren and hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Not too shabby for a convertible. Plus, it’s quite a looker. For those who want a British exotic, you can’t go wrong here.

Prices haven’t been announced, but we’d guess there will be around a $10,000 - $20,000 increase on the coupe’s $107,400 sticker. Expect the V8 Vantage roadster to arrive at an upscale dealer near you around the middle of 2007. We’ll bring you more on the V8 Vantage roadster during our coverage of the L.A. Auto Show at the end of the month. For now, enjoy the photos below.

1982 BMW 633CSi [Down On The Street]

Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. The BMW E24 is not exactly an endangered species, but it's such a good-looking car that every single one I see in Alameda qualifies for this series. Never mind that I have photographs of six Alameda 2002s stockpiled- it's 6 Series time again!

This car is owned by the man I consider to be the King Of Alameda BMWs; not only does he have a '74 E9 on the street, he's got a turbocharged 745i and who knows what other droolworthy Bavarian steel in the garage and scattered around the neighborhood. We'll be seeing the rest of his cars soon enough, but today it's the E24's turn. He picked up this '82 633CSi cheap when its previous owner despaired of ever getting his PCH running. It needs some work, but the body is straight and it now runs just fine.

It's tough to find an example of car-quality-per-dollar quite as good as you get with these things nowadays; the going rate on a nice E24 is down in 100,000-mile Civic territory, and this is a car that sold for the 2008 equivalent of 84 grand when new! The junkyards are chock-full of parts, too. BMWs don't usually get me too worked up, but I've got to admit that I'm seriously tempted to get an E24.
