Though we were done with cash for clunkers just because the bill passed, didja? Wrong. The program’s not yet started, and we’re seeing some items worth note.
First, Dave McCurdy, the president of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, is already claiming that Congress will consider extending the program in the fall. We can see that happening if the program runs out of money. We can also see Congress revisiting cash for clunkers even if the program doesn’t meet its goals, using that scnario as an excuse to modify the terms of the program. We’ve gone over this ground before.
But we have the 25-year extension, right? Well, there are already people agitating against that. Guarantee he won’t be the last.
And finally, turning our attention up north, Canada’s considering aping the American cash for clunkers program. But didn’t they already have a lesser program?
