Hemmings Challenge Vintage Car Rally Day 3

Day three was a long and challenging one with seven separate legs completed and only seven Aces scored among the 42 cars that started the day. Several did not complete the last leg of the day. Winners for day three were Ron Ferris and John Sears driving their ‘32 Ford (there’s that pesky continuing pattern) to a total time only 17 seconds off perfect, including one of the rare Aces of the day. The Hemmings Speedster finished 29th, scoring 47.25 seconds, most of that time lost on leg three and just missed their third Ace of the event on the fifth leg.

The competition for overall champion separated slightly at the top, but only by fractions of a second. Leading as of the end of the day, Dan and Bill Loubiere with a total of 35 seconds and a total score of 22.05 seconds off perfect time. The day’s winning Ferris/Sears team moved up to second overall, off 36 seconds and having a score of 22.68 seconds. Both of these teams receive the same .63 multiplication factor because of the age of their cars (both ’32s). This is mutliplied by their total times to receive their final scores. As with previous days this week, your worst leg for each day is dropped from scoring.  In third place overall is Gary and Jean-Anne Martin in their 1938 Ford coupe at 22.77 seconds, The Coker/Cunningham team dropped back to 4th at 26.46 seconds. Our Hemmings team, after finishing 29th on day three, dropped to 27th in the overall standings but still less than one minute off the leaders in total score.  Day 4 heads south of the border to Arkansas, with the lunch stop in Mountain Home.
