Another pre-Paris reveal that’s getting us revved up for the big event, we managed to get our hand on photos leaked from VW of their new 2009 VW Golf GTI. Powered by Volkswagen’s new 4-cylinder turbo EA888 engine, new Golf GTI reportedly gets a 10 unit horsepower boost over the current GTI to 210-hp. For as much as it’s been touted as the “new” GTI, there isn’t that much difference between the 2009 GTI and the current GTI model, neither aesthetically or mechanically. The most noticeable exterior difference is a slightly modified front bumper, and it’s actually the GTI’s underpinnings that received the biggest makeover.

Sitting on the Mark VI Golf platform, VW claims that the new GTI can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 7 seconds while still retaining a 7.5L per 100 kilometer fuel average [which roughly translates to about 38 mpg, combined]. Other then the bare bones specs, VW has kept all other details on the 2009 GTI sparse, choosing to leave some of the juiciest bits for the Paris reveal. What we do know: unlike several exciting Paris debuts, the 2009 VW Golf GTI will be making its way stateside.
